Make Time for the Little Things

School buildings can take a bit of a bashing during the year and keeping them clean can be pretty tricky. Daily cleaning is key but alongside their usual tasks, school cleaning teams will need to deal with a whole range of other problems caused by accidents, deliberate acts or the sheer volume and throughput of pupils and students. Fortunately, Diversey has a complete range of specialist products designed to deal with all manner of cleaning problems and make the life of the hard-pressed cleaning team just a little bit easier:

Sprint Spitfire: a powerful ready-to-use heavy duty spray cleaner that is ideal for removing graffiti and other stains from most alkaline resistant hard surfaces. Its powerful formulation is based on a mix of detergents and solvents that quickly and efficiently removes mineral and vegetable oils. It is particularly efficient for removing stains such as ink, marker, pencil, lipstick, black heel marks, smoke films, greasy food and other tenacious marks.

Tapi Gum: a fast and effective ready-to-use aerosol freeze spray. It quickly freezes the gum and allows safe and easy removal from most hard surfaces, carpets and upholstery.

Sani Mould Out: a powerful ready-to-use grout cleaner that removes mould, mildew and fungus from ceramic and tiled areas in cloakrooms, washrooms and changing rooms. Its highly alkaline formulation also removes body fat and soap scum which helps to prevent bad odours and promotes better hygiene.

These are just a few of Diversey’s problem-solvers and specialist products. School cleaning teams can use them alongside their daily cleaning products, tools and equipment to keep their facilities clean, hygienic and safe for pupils, staff and visitors.

Summer Carpet Care

Schools and colleges often have carpets in meeting rooms, corridors, libraries, staff rooms, or offices. A three-stage approach to keeping these areas clean – daily vacuuming, intermittent encapsulation cleaning and periodic deep extraction cleaning – will pay dividends in the long run. It can protect and refresh the carpet and prolong its life to avoid the need for expensive replacements.

Intermittent and deep cleaning are essential because – even with daily vacuuming – schools and colleges are busy places so soiling will inevitably work its way into the fabric of the carpet. Interim cleaning helps keep carpets looking better for longer and extends the interval between deep cleaning which generally requires more drying time. Summer is the ideal time for schools and colleges to undertake these vital tasks because there is more time to remove furniture and other obstructions to get the work done efficiently.

Diversey’s innovative TASKI procarpet machine is ideal for both these tasks because it incorporates interim encapsulation and deep extraction capabilities in a single design. This removes the need to purchase separate machines for these two core tasks, saving capital, supply chain and storage costs.  Operators also retain the flexibility to undertake the application that best suits their needs based on turnaround time and soil levels.

The machine is available in two versions – the TASKI procarpet 30 and TASKI procarpet 45 – which are simple to use. This promotes productivity and offers lower total cost of ownership while delivering excellent performance and results.

The encapsulation function supports fast and efficient intermediate carpet care. Operators simply add Enhance Foam Shampoo to the built-in solution tank. The machine is then run back and forth over the carpet in its encapsulation mode. Soiling is broken down and captured by the product which dries quickly to form a powder which is picked up using a conventional vacuum cleaner. The carpet is out of commission for a minimal time and can be returned to use as soon as it has dried and vacuuming is complete, typically within around half an hour.

When deeper cleaning is required, the TASKI procarpet is simply switched into its extraction mode. A suitable product from Diversey’s extensive range is added to the tank. Enhance Extraction Cleaner – a low-foaming Woolsafe-approved extraction cleaner with a fresh fragrance – is an ideal choice for schools and colleges because it can be used on all types of carpet. Agitation by the machine promotes soil breakdown and ensures excellent penetration of the product into the pile to reach and remove even the deepest soiling. The machine’s suction pick-up mechanism extracts the soiled solution and the carpet is left to dry before it can be used again the following day.

The three-stage approach to carpet care is always advisable but sometimes a little extra is required. Stubborn stains can be removed with a suitable product such as Enhance Spot and Stain Remover. Chewing gum – which may be a particular problem in schools and colleges – can be removed with Enhance Anti Gum.

Diversey can advise on the right combination of products, tools and equipment to achieve optimum cleaning results. Cleaning floors in schools and colleges should not be overlooked but nor does it need to be onerous. Choosing the right products and equipment and using them correctly will keep processes simple while ensuring carpets remain as good as new for years and delaying the time when a replacement is required.

Sustainable Summer School Floorcare

Floorcare comes high up the list of summer maintenance tasks in schools and colleges because the long holiday allows enough time to work on large areas without interruptions. Educational facilities increasingly want to reduce reliance on single-use plastics and chemicals as part of their overall sustainability objectives and to meet the expectation of their students. Working without chemicals simplifies cleaning processes, creates a healthier environment for students, staff and cleaners, and reduces routine machine maintenance burdens. Twister by Diversey floorcare pads meet these objectives and offer a highly effective, economical and sustainable alternative to traditional equipment.

Hard floors in schools and colleges are made from a wide range of materials such as vinyl, composites, linoleum, terrazzo, stone, tile and even concrete. These all take a battering during the school year and each day they must deal with a constant barrage of shoes, wheels, desks and chairs and harmful contaminants. Stresses like these can quickly cause wear and premature damage without proper floor care maintenance. Protecting floors throughout their lifetime can pose a real challenge. Yet, school administrators expect a variety of floor surfaces to hold up over time and withstand the impact of day-to-day school activities.

It is imperative to understand that every type of flooring material requires regular maintenance to ensure longevity. The ideal floor care recipe is a combination of daily cleaning and scheduled restorative cleaning, typically undertaken during the long summer break in schools and colleges. It’s important to find the right products, machines and tools that promote efficiency, cost savings and cleaning consistency.

Twister is a complete set of colour-coded floorcare pads for hard floors.

Twister is an innovative set of colour-coded floor care pads. They can be used with water alone on most types of hard floor, including those found in schools and colleges, for routine and daily cleaning as well as periodic maintenance. Used this way the pads reduce chemical usage by 100%, floor pad costs by 66%, and weight of consumables by 98% (which also saves transport and handling) compared with traditional products.

The pads are ideally used with Diversey’s advanced TASKI swingo scrubber driers or rotary-disc machines but they can, in fact, be used with machines from most leading manufacturers.

The pads are made from recycled plastics impregnated with billions of microscopic diamonds on the working side. Pads for different applications and types of floor are manufactured by changing the size and combination of the microscopic diamonds. The pads last three times longer than traditional products and significantly reduce the need for periodic maintenance. They are generally less abrasive than corresponding conventional alternatives which helps to protect the floor while giving a smoother and improved appearance. The diamond impregnated side of the pad is coloured and works as a wear indicator.

Twister pads are ideally used with TASKI scrubber driers and rotary disc machines.

Many users find that regular use of Twister pads reduces and even removes the need for periodic maintenance. However, when this is required selecting the right pads from the range can provide the additional abrasion to remove existing finishes and deposits from the floor. Once these residues have been removed, switching to less abrasive pads from the range will – with regular use – maintain a micro-polished surface that is more resistant to soiling. This helps to make ongoing daily cleaning simpler and quicker for hard-pressed school and college cleaning teams.

Make it a Carefree Summer

Summer is the traditional time when schools and colleges carry out refurbishment and maintenance tasks. The long summer holiday presents the only extended break that allows plenty of time to get tough jobs done without interruption. Diversey has a complete set of cleaning products to help school and college cleaning teams finish even the most difficult jobs quickly, effectively and with excellent results.

Floors in particular often need attention during the long summer holidays. These can take a fair old beating during the school year. The busiest and most-used areas such as entrances, corridors, assembly rooms and sports halls will endure heavy traffic day in, day out.

Regular, daily cleaning with the right products and equipment will always help keep hard floors in the best possible condition and mitigate against potential damage. But summer holidays leave a bit more time for the extra attention that will help protect the floor and prolong its life for the longer term.

To meet these challenges, Diversey offers its Carefree Range – a complete set of tried and tested floorcare products that have been used by floorcare professionals for almost four decades. The 12 products in the range cover every aspect of floor care and maintenance.

Summer floor care starts with stripping the existing finish. The Carefree range includes a choice of products that can quickly remove multiple layers of existing finish from almost any type of hard floor. These can be used with manual tools or machines such as an advanced TASKI scrubber drier.

Once the existing finish has been removed the next stage will often involve the application of an undercoat such as Carefree Undercoat. This water-based porous floor sealer provides a semi-permanent seal and can be used on all types of porous floors (except wood) to provide a suitable base for the final finish.

The final stage is to apply a new layer of finish. The Carefree range includes a choice of low, medium and high gloss finishes to provide the desired level of sheen on the floor. These offer excellent protection against scuffs and marking on all types of flooring to protect the surface. The ultimate protection is given by Carefree Eternum, a high gloss, low maintenance floor polish which incorporates a blend of three polymers to give the best performance and high gloss. This provides excellent adhesion with a hard-wearing easy-to-maintain protective film.

These essential maintenance tasks mean little if the correct products are not used for subsequent routine and daily cleaning tasks.

To meet these essential requirements, the Carefree range includes special products such as an all-in-one polish and maintainer, a general maintainer and a restorer that repairs scratches in the underlying finish.

Finally, the range includes a complete set of cleaning products for all types of floors and finishes. Like many Diversey floorcare products, these can all be used with TASKI mops, applicators and floorcare machines.

With its market-leading position and unrivalled heritage in floorcare, Diversey can advise schools and colleges on the right combination of products, tools and equipment to achieve the best possible results on almost any type of floor. Compact Scrubber Driers for Healthcare Settings

Scrubber driers are widely used by healthcare FM and building care teams to clean floors quickly, effectively and productively. It’s always important to match the size and performance of the machine to application requirement so that it can be used efficiently and economically. An additional consideration when working in confined areas, such as those found in many healthcare settings, is to ensure the machine can work in and around obstructions.

Diversey’s TASKI swingo 350B ultra-compact scrubber, for example, is ideal for this type of work because its compact design combines innovation and proven technology to deliver superior floor cleaning performance. It offers cleaning teams an excellent alternative to comparable equipment and is ideal to replace inefficient mopping processes.

Like all TASKI machines this models improves productivity, promotes better hygiene, enhances the appearance and prolongs the life of the floor, and supports controlled and predictable cost in use. It is suitable for areas where the daily cleaning requirement is between 80 and 350 square metres. Low noise and the absence of a power cable makes it ideal for daytime and frequent cleaning applications in busy and confined areas where building occupants and members of the public may be present. It removes dirt completely and leaves the floor totally dry and ready to be walked on immediately with reduced risk of the slip and trip accidents that are one of the biggest causes of injury in the workplace and public spaces.

The tricycle castor configuration and design of the pick-up mechanism ensures that the v-shaped squeegee blade follows the contours of the floor perfectly even when operating over rough or uneven surfaces to remove water, cleaning solution and small pieces of debris. Direct suction line eliminates risk of clogging. The pick up also incorporates an innovative and patented wiping blade in front of the brush which allows the machine to remove solutions from the floor even when operating in reverse. This means the machine can clean and dry areas in tight corners and against walls or obstructions. A wide range of tools and accessories is available to offer operators complete cleaning versatility.

The compact and innovative design of the machine allows it to be used in small and confined spaces. It can turn on the spot while the very low height of 45cm and folding handle allows it to clean under obstacles such as tables and racks. The machine is available with a choice of roller brushes for different floor types. The offset configuration allows it to clean right up to the edge of the floor and along walls. Its spray bar delivers cleaning solution precisely to the point it is needed which helps to improve cleaning performance and reduce wastage.

Ergonomic design ensures the machine is comfortable and productive. Its intuitive controls are similar to those on other TASKI swingo scrubber driers which helps to promote ease-of-use for anyone familiar with existing equipment. The height-adjustable handle ensures comfort during cleaning even when operating along walls or under racks and tables. It is simple and safe to use and reduces training requirements to a minimum.

The TASKI swingo 350B scrubber drier is designed for use with the extensive range professional floor care products from Diversey. These are used with Diversey’s filling and dosing systems such as SmartDose and QuattroSelect to ensure correct mixing for optimum cleaning performance, controlled cost-in-use and no waste for the best possible sustainability.

All service components are coloured yellow for easy identification during daily and routine checks and to simplify operator training. Each can be removed quickly and easily without any tools to minimise downtime. The compact design allows the machine to be stored in a small cupboard when it is not being used.

We’ll be highlighting the TASKI swingo 350B at the forthcoming Healthcare FM event at the National Conference Centre near Birmingham on 12 June.

Making A Big Noise About Quiet Vacuums

Have you heard about the latest TASKI aero vacuum cleaners? We’ve been shouting about the TASKI AERO tub and TASKI AERO BACKPACK models online and in print since we launched them. But what makes these advanced machines special is not the noise we’re making but how quiet they are when you’re using them. In fact, we reckon the TASKI AERO tub vacuum is the quietest and most energy-efficient machine currently available on the professional cleaning market.

The four models in the range produce only 53dB(A) of sound and utilise just 585W of electrical power in standard model yet produce as much cleaning suction as machines rated at 1000W or more. In “eco” mode they produce just 50dB(A) and consume a mere 295W. On energy savings alone, they can pay for themselves in under three years.

The TASKI AERO models meet the stringent vacuum cleaner sound and energy level requirements covered by EU Regulations EU665/2013 and EU666/2013 that came into force in September 2017. These restrict vacuums manufactured or sold in the EU to a maximum 900W power rating and maximum 80dB(A) sound level and set additional standards for labelling and performance.

This reduction in sound levels is significant. Each 10dB reduction in sound level halves the loudness we perceive. That means that in its quietest eco mode (50dB) the TASKI AERO will sound almost eight times quieter than a machine that only just beats the 80dB limit of the new regulations. This is because 30dB is three times 10, so the sound level is halved three times (ie 1/2×1/2×1/2 = 1/8). That’s much, much quieter we think you’ll agree.

How did we do it? The engineers at TASKI came up with a revolutionary design that ensures the maximum amount of air is used to create the all-important suction at the cleaning head. By redesigning the machine’s internal airways, they eliminated the obstructions, constrictions and potential points of leakage that reduce efficiency and produce unnecessary noise. Adding newly-designed components including an ultra-efficient electric motor further boosted efficiency and cut noise. We call this combination of patented designs and components “whisper technology”.

The reduction in energy consumption is also significant. The TASKI AERO vacuums consume less than a third of the energy of previous-generation models. That means in typical professional settings they will consume around £30 less electricity a year than older and conventional machines. In other words, a TASKI AERO will pay for itself in less than three years – that’s the most competitive total cost of ownership package available.

Our new TASKI AERO BACKPACK vacuum cleaner offers similar noise and energy reduction benefits with the additional convenience of being carried comfortably as a portable electric model. For the ultimate in agility and convenience it is also available in a battery powered version. Its unique 3-in-1 capability allows it to be used as a backpack vacuum, tub vacuum or as a blower.

The compact portable design makes the TASKI AERO BP ideal for cleaning areas that are difficult to access with a conventional equipment. These include busy entrances and congested schools, office buildings or public transport. The battery model offers ultimate performance in high circulation areas, or anywhere the presence of the public makes safety a priority, because there are no trailing power leads.

It is among the lightest backpack vacuums while the ultra-slim profile and high-quality rucksack material make it extremely comfortable to carry. The near-perfect weight distribution across the user’s back ensures maximum comfort. The overall weight of the electric version is just 4.7kg, while the battery version barely exceeds this at 5.3kg.

The TASKI AERO and TASKI AERO BACKPACK vacuums are just part of the extensive TASKI range that also includes the newly redesigned TASKI ensign upright models which, like our other vacuums, all comply with the latest EU standards. To find out more about these and all other floor cleaning machines and accessories, download the new TASKI catalogue.

Simplifying Floorcare Decisions in Healthcare

Innovations in flooring – for practical and cosmetic reasons – continue to widen the choice of materials and finishes available. This makes the correct specification and use of floorcare products and equipment more complex because there is more to consider. Mistakes can damage the floor and be difficult and costly to correct. In many cases the solution is to use a scrubber drier or rotary disc machine in conjunction with a particular pad or brush and, usually but not always, cleaning product.

In general, innovative synthetic flooring is now more widely used than wood and other traditional materials. This has led to a move from laborious stripping, polishing and buffing to more efficient machine cleaning and maintaining. Diversey offers pads and brushes for almost every type of flooring and will be able to advise on the right one to use with any machine from its advanced TASKI range in any given application. The right combination will achieve the best possible results, economy and sustainability.

In healthcare, for example, there is a clear trend towards vinyl floors with a thin wear layer that requires no polish and hence has no shine. These floors have a sheen finish and are perceived to present reduced risk of slips, still one of the major causes of accidents and injuries in workplaces, especially to vulnerable patients such as those suffering from dementia. They are also generally easier to maintain because they require no intermittent stripping and sealing.

Floors with wear layers can normally be cleaned using innovative floorcare pads such as Twister by Diversey. This innovative set of colour-coded floor care pads is made from recycled plastics impregnated with billions of microscopic diamonds on the working side. They are ideally used with Diversey’s advanced TASKI swingo scrubber driers or rotary-disc machines and water alone to deliver excellent results while making floor care operations more sustainable. The range includes pads for almost every type of hard floor, manufactured by changing the size and combination of the microscopic diamonds. The pads are less abrasive than corresponding conventional alternatives which helps to protect the floor while giving a smoother and improved appearance. The resulting micro-polished floor is also more resistant to soiling.

Also in healthcare, there is an ongoing use of products containing chlorine as the active ingredient as part of infection prevention efforts. These products can cause long-term degradation of the floor if not used correctly. One way to alleviate such concerns is to use a scrubber drier with effective dilution control and which always applies the correct amount of solution to the floor and then removes it to leave the floor dry and ready to use. These are the key attributes of TASKI scrubber driers equipped with the IntelliDose dilution and IntelliFlow solution control systems.

In commercial settings, Diversey has seen increased use of floors woven from vinyl and other materials that have a textured surface. Conventional rotary pads and discs are less effective on these floors because they cannot reach into the recesses on the undulating surface. In these cases, a scrubber drier equipped with a cylindrical brush will be more effective.

The variety of floor type and the choice of equipment and products can present a bewildering set of choices. Nevertheless, by taking advice from suppliers such as Diversey, cleaning teams can introduce cleaning processes that improve results while being effective, productive and sustainable.

Floorcare is one of application areas we’re highlighting at the forthcoming HCA Forum (11-12 April, Celtic Manor, South Wales).

Sustainable Floorcare with Twister by Diversey

Twister by Diversey is an innovative set of colour-coded floor care pads made from recycled plastics impregnated with billions of microscopic diamonds on the working side. They are ideally used with Diversey’s advanced TASKI swingo scrubber driers or rotary-disc machines and water alone to deliver excellent results while making floor care operations more sustainable. This highly sustainable floorcare option is one of the Top Ten products that we’ll be featuring at The Cleaning Show at Excel London from 19-21 March.

The range includes pads for almost every type of hard floor manufactured by changing the size and combination of the microscopic diamonds. This makes the pads less abrasive than corresponding conventional alternatives which helps to protect the floor while giving a smoother and improved appearance. The resulting micro-polished floor is more resistant to soiling.

The pads can be used with water alone, last three times longer than traditional products, and significantly reduce the need for periodic maintenance, all of which improves sustainability and reduces overall costs. Used this way the pads reduce chemical usage by 100%, floor pad costs by 66%, and weight of consumables by 98% (which also saves transport and handling) compared with traditional products. Working without chemicals also simplifies cleaning processes, creates a healthier environment for cleaners and bystanders, and reduces routine machine maintenance burdens.

There are different pads in the range almost every type of hard floor. Using just four in sequence – red, white, yellow, green – can rejuvenate and transform old, dull and worn stone floors with clean, uniform, shiny and polished results. The diamond impregnated side of the pad is coloured and works as a wear indicator.

Performance with Agility: TASKI swingo 2100μicro Scrubber Drier

The TASKI swingo 2100μicro (micro) scrubber drier is a revolutionary ultra-compact ride-on that combines agility, versatility and innovation to deliver class-leading floorcare performance up to 22 per cent higher than comparable models. Designed to deliver the productivity of a ride-on machine in settings where pedestrian equipment is traditionally used, it offers a highly efficient alternative to conventional designs. Innovations include a unique offset feature to clean against walls, energy-saving LED lighting, ergonomic “active sitting” driving position, and configurability as an integrated cleaning workstation.

Since its launch in 2015 the TASKI swingo 2100μicro scrubber drier has proved extremely popular with cleaning teams. It’s one of our Top Ten products that we’ll be featuring at the forthcoming Cleaning Show (21-23 March, Excel London).

The development team at TASKI has responded to market demand for a ride-on machine for smaller areas with exceptional uptime, productivity and performance. The generous 75-litre tank, efficient scrubber mechanism, advanced cleaning solution control and energy management ensure the machine can cover larger areas, up to 5000m2, and work autonomously for longer between refills and recharges (up to four hours) than comparable machines. Downtime is minimised so that the machine spends more time on productive work. Overall performance is up to 22 per cent better than comparable machines.

Innovations include a unique offset cleaning feature that enables the machine to clean right up against a wall. When used in this mode the scrubber mechanism can project up to 14cm to the right-hand side. No other ride-on machine offers this ability to clean the entire floor to the edge in a single pass. This eliminates the need to use a small pedestrian machine or mop and bucket for unproductive, inefficient and time-consuming secondary cleaning.

Offset cleaning automates manual working along walls and around objects by allowing the machine to work further from the wall more quickly and safely. The mechanism slides out of the way when obstacles are touched to prevent damage and repositions itself afterwards for continued cleaning. For general floorcare tasks and when the machine is travelling between areas, the mechanism is positioned centrally.

The machine is equipped with LED lights that consume less energy than conventional bulbs. Operators can use their machines with the lights on for longer without drawing excessive charge from the battery, ideal for low ambient lighting settings such as shops and warehouses during quiet periods. Operators also have a better all-round view of the working area when they use the lights.

The ultra-compact design and tricycle-style configuration promotes manoeuvrability and agility in confined and congested areas. With its 55cm working width and 138cm overall length the machine has a turning circle of less than 180cm which means it can operate productively and safely between obstacles, is compact enough to pass through normal doors and be transported in standard lifts.

Like all TASKI scrubber driers, the machine is designed for safe and ergonomic working. The operator is positioned directly over the scrubber mechanism and, unlike pedestrian machines, has an unobstructed view of the floor being cleaned and the wider working area for optimum productivity and safety. The unique “active sitting” driving position is designed to support the operator in the ideal posture to reduce fatigue during long shifts by taking weight off their feet while also allowing easy access from either side for maximum productivity.

Machine speed is automatically reduced when turning to promote stability. The front-tank layout offers full-width protection of the operator’s knees, legs and arms to reduce the risk of injuries. Controls are within easy reach for ergonomic working and follow the same intuitive style and layout as other TASKI machines to promote familiarity and ease-of-use with minimal retraining requirements.

The machine supports extensive customisation to enable intelligent total cleaning solutions matched to the specific application requirement. In addition to a number of machine-specific options, any tool or accessory from the extensive TASKI trolley range can be specified. This allows operators to configure their machines with everything needed to work autonomously on routine or bespoke applications without users wasting time locating and retrieving items.

The machine’s advanced TASKI IntelliFlow solution management system helps to minimise the number of time-consuming stops. The correct amount of solution is always delivered, irrespective of machine speed, even when turning, for consistent cleaning. Sustainability is further enhanced when options such as TASKI IntelliDose on-board dilution control, TASKI AquaStop refill management and TASKI Intellitrail fleet management are adopted.
